As one of the most frequently requested cosmetic procedures, breast augmentation is a simple and effective way for women to enhance their natural physique, restore symmetry or shape, or create bodily balance following weight loss or pregnancy. At The Plastics Doc in Beverly Hills and Riverside, California, plastic surgeon Dr. Samuel E. Salcedo offers breast augmentation surgery to women who are ready to feel more confident about their shape. To learn more or schedule a consultation, call the office today or book online anytime.
Breast augmentation surgery uses silicone gel or saline implants to enhance the size of naturally small breasts or to restore volume to breasts that have been left flatter following pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss.
The procedure can also be used to achieve a more rounded shape or make naturally asymmetrical breasts look more balanced. Women may opt to have breast augmentation to:
While breast augmentation is an effective way to increase volume and create symmetry, it doesn’t address sagging breasts. To correct unwanted sagging while enhancing the size, Dr. Salcedo performs breast lift surgery in combination with the augmentation procedure.
The FDA approves two types of implant material for use in breast augmentation surgery: Implants made with silicone gel, and implants that contain saline.
The main difference between silicone and saline implants has to do with how they look and feel. Once you select the type of implant you want, you’ll have to make further decisions about the shape and degree of firmness you prefer.
Dr. Salcedo can help you understand your options and make an informed selection.
During breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Salcedo uses a general anesthetic to keep you comfortable. He begins the procedure by making an incision under your breast, in your armpit, or just below your nipple. Then, he gently lifts your breast tissue, creates a pocket within your chest, and skillfully sets the implant in the pocket.
The pocket that holds your implants will be situated behind your pectoral muscles. Implants that are inserted behind your pectoral muscles may interfere less with breastfeeding and mammograms; for this and other reasons, Dr. Salcedo prefers this approach.
Your unique anatomy helps Dr. Salcedo determine where to make your incisions, as well as how to insert the implants.
After applying bandages to your incisions, Dr. Salcedo uses a garment to support your breasts and help reduce post-surgical swelling and bruising. Swelling should begin to subside within a few days, once your incisions heal.
Although breast augmentation results are immediate, it may take a few weeks for your implants to settle into their permanent shape and position.
